I found my countertops

My task for today was to clean up the kitchen counter top and although it is not spotless it looks a helk of a lot better. I recycled, purged, organized and tossed. I worked the phones a bit more and talked to some really challenging guy at Dish Network.

It seems that when they turn my service off next week they were going to send those "courtesy" boxes here to IA. They don't send until they shut things off. Duh, when you shut things off is right before I leave town, need the boxes to my new address. OK, we'll shut you off and the boxes will be there next Monday. WHOA they partner, I won't be there next Monday and I am thinking the people who's house we a buying might be a bit confused. Well, apparently my situation is just too complex and I just need to wait and shut off the week after we leave and then they will send the boxes to TX. So that means the movers have to take the receivers and such and I have to hope that I have unpacked/found them soon after we arrive and get the darn boxes to send them back. Does it have to be this hard?

OK, too much energy expended today. I am off to watch some Oprah episodes I have missed and get comfy for, God willing, a better nights sleep.

15 years ago...

So 15 years ago Fred and I were married. It was a humid Friday night in Indy and we were dressed to impress. I was less than pleased with my all too tight hair style but that was the least of my worries. My soon to be hubby was waiting patiently in church and I was prepping in the bride's room. As I walked down the aisle on my daddy's arm I cried tears of joy and fear and exhaustion. The wedding was beautiful, the reception was fun and the honeymoon was restful and my first induction to the love of all things Disney World. Who knew what we were starting? 15 years later we are still very much in love but have multiplied that love in our family made whole with the boys. Fred is off working hard this week and I am home doing the same. We have shared our good wishes through technology and telepathy today, oh and he sent me 15 beautiful long stemmed roses. The boys and I celebrated by going to Bailey's for dinner after Pokemon and it was just a really good day to reminisce and reference how far we have come in these few short years. We have many more to come. The adventure awaits!


Check out these beautiful people. The bro on the left getting married in about 8 weeks, the one on the right became a daddy this year and the amazing sister in the middle is super mom to two of her own. I feel certain my parents were beaming that night. And have many other nights since.
These two ladies were the life of the party. Granny Krider and Great Aunt Mary did not consult on their wardrobe but it is so obvious that they were close sisters.

Too much time on my hands...

So it is not that I don't have plenty to keep me busy. The deal is that since I am doing all of this busy work while the boys are in school (ie not in the house making noise) I have had a lot to think about. So today while messing with the boys' rooms, trying to put them in some order because if the room is a mess the movers will just move that mess to the new room, I have been thinking about things that I will miss from here in IA and things that I am looking forward to in TX.

Things I will miss...
1. My gal pals from WMHS! Great friends for life though.
2. My BIG green yard.
3. The people at Bailey's and Cissy's that know my name and my car.
4. MIW
5. My church where everyone pitched in and you could see every corner of the church from any seat in the place.
6. S & K
7. Going to the grocery and only spending $10 because they had what I needed and it is too small to lure me in to other unnecessary stuff.
8. My house. I love this house, casual and inviting and bright.

Things I am EXCITED about!
1. All inclusive nationwide calling on my home phone! No waiting until Saturday or calling only those who were "in" to make connections.
2. $2.00 Dry cleaner
3. Pizza DELIVERY!
4. A library with something like 38,000 volumes! Free and at my disposal.
5. A fenced in yard for my dog and my kids.
6. Not me so much, but the boys are excited about a neighborhood pool.
7. IKEA
8. A Road Runner Turbo Internet connection.
9. My new house. Double ovens that I will never use, Granite counters that I don't know how to clean and a BIG ol' pantry.
10 Being anywhere with my hubby and boys, meeting new people, seeing new sights and entertaining guests in a new town.

Thanks for playing... I should really do a scrapbook of all of these homes, with lots of blank pages for future installments. I believe that my parents, Fred's mom and sister and niece Megan as well as Denise and Tyler have been to every spot at least one time (with the exception of #4 because there was barely enough room for us let alone guests).

Off to get ready to get the boys from school. I should have been able to accomplish more today. Thankfully I have all afternoon yet...

The Greatest Spectacle in Racing and other stuff

We had a very nice Sunday that included me being a little too attached to watching the 500. I should be a much bigger race fan than I am. It is in my blood really. I have been to the race exactly once in my life (thanks to my Granny who paid for everyone on their 12th birthday year or something like that) and that one time was probably plenty. I REALLY enjoyed the ESPN coverage on the big screen so much better than being there. They have all of these cool cameras on the cars. They can listen in on drivers' conversations and they have instant replay from multiple camera angles. I just don't think that being there would have been too much better. I am certain that many in my extended family would disagree because the weather was gorgeous and the KFC was tasty but I liked sitting in my pajamas until 3:30 local time and watching the race just as much as they did and I didn't need sunblock!

After the race ended I worked on the house a bit. Spent some quality time with the Ikea catalog and Fred merged photos of my new kitchen so that I could plan what would go where before the boxes are even packed at this end. I think some might refer to this as "Traubin" So I did a Krider thing for the first 1/2 of the day and I did the Traub thing the latter 1/2 of the day.

It was pretty hot here yesterday and we enjoyed a nice breeze with lots of windows open but right at bedtime there were some storm warnings and tornadoes had hit some areas in NE Iowa so it took some work to get the boys calm enough to rest. We closed up the house and turned on the AC and that made for better sleeping conditions for all.

Today is another busy day. Fred and the boys just left to go pack up his office in M-town. I am working on getting stuff ready for the charity drop tomorrow. The dog is whining because he didn't get to go with the boys. I should get busy or just enjoy the quiet while I can. Ta ta!

I've been SHOPPING!

I am happy to share that we have a fridge on order from Sears and the delivery men will have to duke it out with the movers when it comes to access to the house. The movers should be delivering all of my personal items the same day that Sears delivers my fridge. All required so it will work out!

In addition to dropping $2000 at Sears I also picked up a few new light colored t-shirts for the boys at The Children's Place and a pair of jeans for each. I also splurged on a belt. You hear that Andy, I bought 1 belt for the boys to share. Yes, it was too late for the First Communion, but in the future we have one. I also picked myself up a few pieces from my favorite store of late, CJ Banks. They do not have CJ in my part of TX yet so I thought I'd get a couple of new things before we headed south. They had a good sale going today where every item you bought yielded another item for 50% off so I bought in even numbers. It's all good.

Nic was excited to buy a Cyclone T-shirt for his Build-a-Bear Bunny that currently had an IN t-shirt on it. He and my mom made that bunny around his 2nd Easter I think. I know it wasn't his first Easter because we were in Kingsport at the time and he had RSV that week. Oh the memories.

Speaking of memories, Fred and I were looking back today on our drive and chattin about the many addresses that we have had as a couple. The new address in Frisco is number 11 in 15 years. Maybe I should offer a prize to anyone who can name/describe our many homesteads?

Our last stop before headin back to town was a quick trip to Archiver's for me. My last few trips to Archiver's have not yielded much to be excited about but today was new and quite exciting. There are some new lines of papers specifically designed for Boys and since I have two such creatures I was excited to get my hands on the paper and some embellishments as well. I will not have time in the next two months to put the paper to good use but I'm certain that this summer will produce many photo ops so I'll be ready to get the layouts done once I get the pictures developed.

Well, I think that wraps up my day. We have plenty more planned for the weekend. I need to some more purging in the basement. Fred and I need to move some extra furniture from the basement to the garage then into my van on Monday night. I plan to release the stuff to a nice organization in M-town call The House of Compassion. They offer some shelter and meal services and assist people in starting new households and supply them with household goods to do just that. I hope that our castoffs go to a nice home.

Where does the stuff come from?

SO I like to think I do a good job taking care of my home but as soon as the boys come home and set their stuff down it explodes and covered every available surface. OK that might be a slight exaggeration but only slightly. I am getting ready to take a 45 minute survey with Will that will yield us $15 so the clean-up will have to wait until we are done.

I had a good day today. Not a killer day in terms of getting through my lists but it was good enough. I did find that Drury Inn hotels are very pet friendly but are only available in one of the three towns we need to stay on our trip to TX. One night out of 7 is covered and at a very reasonable price with free popcorn in the lobby. All good by my standards.

I also made final arrangements in our quest for homeowners, catastrophe and car insurance. Fred did all of the hard work, I just needed to confirm some stuff and share drivers license numbers. Well within my personal comfort zone and abilities.

OK, we just finished that laboriously long survey. It will be worth it when Will's $15 check shows up. It will have to follow us to TX. Doubt it will get here in time.

Fred is home and we need to tend to some business and I need to continue to work on the laundry. Grey's Anatomy Season Finale is tonight so I need to get my jammers on and settle myself in by 8:00. Better hurry!

So close... yet so far.

I was just alerted by the cafeteria manager that "there is 5 days of school left." So I took at look at the menu choices, figured out what each kid would eat and the milk they might need to supplement their brown bag and came up with needing $5.85. Guess how much we have in our family account? $5.75 Ugh! Now I need to deposit a dime into their account. Add that to my list of things to do.

So far today I have been working in the basement and working the phones. I have gas and electric set up at the new house. I talked to a Time Warner rep way too long and am still confused about needing a DCT, a DVR and an HD box to go with my Digital Classic channel line-up. Need to research that a bit more. They can bundle Internet and digital phone for us too but I am not sure if that is the best deal or the most simple deal. Something to consider over the next 48 hours or so.

I have a nice list of items going to the House of Compassion in M-town and also have the stuff for the neighbor to look over. It will help to get some of those pieces out of the basement so I can better visualize how much STUFF we have and need.

OK, it is 1:30 and I have yet to eat lunch. My hands are shaky so I think that may be a sign to log off and eat.

Will the joy ever end?

So the big thing on my list today is making some calls about new services in Frisco. I just called to cancel my Dish service and they pushed hard for me to stick with them when we move. I am just too excited about going back to reliable cable with a high speed Internet connection that I just didn't consider it. They are sending me empty boxes as a "courtesy" and I can return the items when we get shut off on June 5th.

I have seen the City Of Frisco site and have info on services they provide I just need to fill out and application and FAX that to them to keep the trash, water and sewer working for me. All good and looks easy.

I have big plans for today, I am going to lunch with a friend from the hood. We are headed to Ames, IA for some sustenance and chatting. Two things I am REALLY good at!

Last night the boys went to my final Stamp Club in M-town. Sadly there were only 2 members there, that means 4 were missing, so we got to make double the cards and perfect our technique. It was a nice quick evening and the boys did pretty well, since I bribed them with McDonald's for dinner.

OK, off to shower and shine for my exciting day. Don't be jealous now...

Sunday is funday????

We have been productive... 2 days in a row. Fred cleaned up the garage a bit, I paid bills, the boys were boys, and didn't help much.

Our buyers are coming over for a walk through tonight and we are getting Bailey's for dinner. Yummo! I plan to plan some meals for this week and decide which directions I need to go on what days. There are some errands on my list for the week and about a million phone calls to update our address with about that many companies.

I am now the owner of a new navigation system for my car. We picked one up at Best Buy last night then talked to Andy on the way home. With his help we found it online for $170 less. YIKES! So one of my errands is to return the first unit to BB this week while I wait for the one from Buy.com that should be here some time next week.

We are still in the market for a fridge. I showed Fred what I liked while in Ames yesterday and he found some he wants to look at from Sears. Unfortunately the closest Sears is very tiny, sells random stuff in the home and garden segment, but will probably not have anything on our short list. This means I need to go to the BIG city. I need to go there anyway to get a new sleeve for the basketball goal that is going with us to Frisco. I'll add that to my list for the week as well.

OK, time to put that mental list on paper before I forget too much.

Thursday was a productive day. Friday I worked and got paid. Today it is time to get busy!!! So far I have...

1. Cleared off all of the photos that I have had on my SD card since our trip to Disney last June.

2. Did a quick survey of stuff throughout the house that will not join us in TX.

3. Talked to a neighbor about taking some of those things off my hands for her grandsons and granddaughter.

4. Fed my kids lunch.

5. Showered.

Now, for the still to do list...

1. Mass at 5:00 PM

2. Go to Ames to look at the fridge options and hopefully eat dinner.

3. Take care of some of those things in the basement that will not go to TX. Make a pile for the neighbor to consider.

4. Laundry, there is always laundry.

5. Put away my scrap crap from last night's short but sweet crop night.

Chicken Tacos

Well the chicken tacos passed the test with the boys. They each had two tacos and seemed enthused. Fred worked late and ate a dinner of peanut butter balls and popcorn and I stuffed myself at lunch and am still not hungry. My plan for tomorrow is to use the leftover chicken for enchiladas. The chicken fell apart so will make great filling. I only hope it is not too spicy.

The best news of the day is that I had/have NO MIGRAINE! This is good news! Off to read and work on a to do list for tomorrow.

So far so good...

It is early yet in the day and I am plugging through my To Do list. I have dinner in the crock pot. I am trying a new recipe for chicken tacos. I'm a little nervous that the boys may not like it but I am also excited that they might say it's OK. It is super easy and I found it on this blog. I'll let you know the response at the dinner table later.



I am up and dressed and have putzed away on the computer doing really important stuff like... Finding new friends in Frisco that like to scrap. Note the new tags on my sidebar. I also looked up info about keeping granite counter tops clean and had some deep e-mail sharing about a sad experience Will had at school yesterday. I am pleased that the principal seems to be willing to take it seriously and I hope that I did a good job explaining why I HATE THE WORD "retard" to my precious son. We stayed up really late talking about what the word REALLY means then we went somewhere in the conversation that Will was really upset that I might die some day. I tried my best to explain things to him with honesty and compassion for his sweet innocent soul. Some days I can not believe that God entrusted these kids to me. What an awesome responsibility.




The rest of my afternoon involves serious time in my basement. I need to make some cards, send some packages, do some laundry and generally clean up my scrap space. It has been a mess since before the first communion so it is past time to be clean. I think I'll get me a little bowl of pretzels, a BIG glass of water and head on down. I'll up-date later if it's worth telling about.

I had a day...

The boys did surprisingly well this morning and I slept pretty well last night too. That made for a good start to the day. After I dropped the three boys at school I ran to the HS to see some friends and share pics of the new house with a few more people. S and K seemed genuinely pleased to see me but didn't seem to care that I wasn't staying.

After I left school I went to Ames and headed straight to Target. I spent some quality time wandering aimlessly and bought a few things before heading to the bank and then I thought I was going to Hobby Lobby but I realized that I had forgotten my coupon. No sense in going if I couldn't get a deal so I then went on my way to Best Buy.

At Best Buy I looked at refrigerators and was thrilled to find a French door model with a freezer on the bottom and an ice and water dispenser in the door. The price is a bit more than I had hoped but now that I know what I need I can shop around for a good price. I picked up some photo printer ink and looked at navigation systems. They are pretty cool and of course I chose the most expensive one. I like the voice, not too nasal or computery (pretty sure that is not a word).

After BB I ran next door to Borders and browsed. It was nice. I then headed to Sam's and picked up some essentials before heading to Lowe's to check their fridge inventory. They had the one I liked at BB for... wait, this is big... $4 less! Whoo hoo, talk about a savings! That is a Happy Meal of savings. Well, I'm not buying today so I have time to look around a bit more.

The afternoon flew by and then all of the sudden the boys were home and the homework party began. Nic had no homework last night and tonight had 4 subjects. I have a feeling that some of this may have been known yesterday but was being put off. Will he ever learn?

I have another headache tonight and am getting really annoyed by it. I took some meds but it is not working. Guess I could go put my Pj's on and plan to head to bed soon after I get the boys settled. Lucky for me tomorrow is a VERY slow day until 3:30 when it is time for Pokemon at the library.

My week ramps up though since I have been asked to sub for my sub on Friday. It'll be fun since it's Uno day at the nursing home and croissant day for breakfast. Something to look forward to.

OK off to help finish up homework and get everyone ready for bed, me included.

Migraine, migraine go away!

AND NEVER COME BACK!

So I crashed last night with a REALLY bad migraine and it took like an hour to fall asleep and I had to do it with a towel wrapped around my head. Fred was watching TV, had his headphones on, but the light of the TV was bothering me even with my eyes closed. Once I fell asleep I slept really well.

Today was pretty low key. My first day home and not working. The move surveyor came this morning, she was a tad late but I forgave her. This afternoon I enjoyed the 3rd through 5th grade spring music concert. The combined recorder chorus was much better than I thought it could be. After the brief concert, Nic and I ran to the HS to show off pics of the new house. We then returned to get Will and a friend to hang out and spend the night. We don't normally have friends on school nights but this was a special circumstance. We were saving him from a night with 4 girls! I felt compelled to make an exception.

So we had a gourmet dinner of Hamburger Helper Lasagna and everyone who ate cleaned their plates and had seconds. There are no leftovers for my lunch tomorrow. Bummer.

The boys settled down pretty well but getting them up in the AM may prove to be a challenge. I need to get up and moving too, promised to go back to school and see some other friends for a bit. Then I plan to be a woman of leisure and go to Ames to look for a new refrigerator, an in- car navigation system, and probably something totally frivolous at Hobby Lobby. But only if I can use my 40% off coupon.

OK, so I again have a migraine and should really get to bed. I sure hope this doesn't become a routine.

My Mother's Day Gift

For Mother's Day this year I received a NEW HOUSE! It is a beautiful four bedroom home with an office, media room and game room. It has an eat-in kitchen and a formal dining room. The master bedroom in on the first floor. We have a very nice deck out back and a reasonable sized green space. There is a pool in our neighborhood, right next to the school, that is only about 4 blocks from our home. We will have plenty of room for guests and the weather should be pleasant all year. Come check it out in person!

What is Ikea?

I thought I would post for my pal Colleen, just what is Ikea? Check out the link... IKEA IS a really great store/shopping experience available in MAJOR cities across the US and throughout the rest of the world. The Swedish store sells furniture, home decor products, organizational aides, cooking items and even refrigerators. And a whole LOT more. (Exhibit A, one wall in the organizational product area)

They also have a restaurant that sells very yummy meatballs (exhibit B, Will even ate the meatballs!) and a variety of other yummy things that will offer some sustenance while shopping in their HUMONGOUS stores. Colleen, the closest IKEA to you would be at the Mall of America. It is a fun place to shop where the price is right on just about everything, even the meatballs.

(Exhibit C, This a HUGE fabric wall hanging that I would love to get. I mentioned that it was HUGE but it only costs $199. Not cheap but it is HUGE and educational to boot.) Although, as I look at it I wonder how you get it home? If is it smaller than 4 foot X 8 foot piece of plywood it would fit flat in my van. Guess I would need to get a good measurement before I paid for it.

OK, I think that is a good enough Ikea lesson. I hope that you get to visit one of these stores someday. It is a fun experience that doesn't have to break the bank. It would be a great place to shop for inexpensive small scale items for college.

We are headed home tomorrow afternoon, I will be posting a more thorough trip report when we get settled, ie. I get all of the laundry done next week.

We had a fun day.

We ran a little late today meeting our awesome realtor Kay's husband at the new house. Thankfully we caught him in time for him to get a tape measure for us to take some important measurements, fridge and stuff. He will oversee the home inspection next week so it was good to spend a little time with him so that Fred could enlighten him on what is important to us when it comes to a good safe home.

After we saw the house we went to the school that the boys will attend in the fall. It is three years old and has about 650 students in grades K-5. there are three main pods, a cefetorium and a gymnasium. they also have a covered play area, four basketball areas and green space. The library was beautiful. there were LOTS of computers and the kids all looked happy. We received the admittance paperwork for next year and will plan to have West Marshall send the boys' records at the end of the school year.

After the school we did something VERY important to mommy! IKEA! We all enjoyed meatballs and chocolate decadence cake for lunch then roamed for a bit and left having only spent $6 and change. Good deal really. I can see going back for lots more things once we get down here. It will be nice to have an Ikea so close again. Remember how we left Canton just 2 months after the Ikea opened there. This one is Frisco is even bigger and full of fun stuff! Fred had never been and the boys didn't remember going before but we managed to have a good time.

After lunch we needed to run to the realtor's office to initial one more paper. Then we headed back to the hotel for a mid-day siesta. I enjoyed it and woke up feeling better than I had. I think that the in and out from hot to cold has given me a little cold. I will deal but should stop by CVS for some meds after dinner.

Once I awoke from my nap the boys FINALLY got to go swimming. They swam until they were wrinkled old men. They had a blast and are ready for summer of swimming. Not sure that their fair skin will handle that but we'll figure something out.

OK, the boys are clean and I am getting hungry so I think it is time to have someone else cook for me. That is my idea of a vacation!

Final notes to my pals in Iowa... Happy birthday to my pal Andrea! Please do not save me any cake, I am sure you didn't! Congratulations to my dear friend Jan who won a very cool AEA award today. She totally deserved it!

Option #3! THEY GOT A GOOD DEAL, IT IS EVERYTHING THEY WANTED AND IT WILL BE OURS ON JUNE 11TH.

Not a single picture.

Nope, I didn't take a single photo! We ran through somewhere between 11 and 13 homes today. I kind of lost count. Some were VERY good and some were VERY bad and some just didn't strike our fancy. The boys did really well but could have done better. Their favorites were some of our least favorite. Not sure why that was. They were all over the home features and seemed to disregard things like location and price. I guess it does make sense. Our priorities are slightly different.

Will is REALLY struggling with some belly issues right now and is VERY uncomfortable. I have tried to help but have not been successful. Prayers are welcome and encouraged.

Fred hooked us up with a sweet hotel so in that respect we are quite comfortable. We have enjoyed breakfast and good dinner type snacking and are hoping to get to the pool of course, as soon as there is a break in the action. We drove by Ikea today and just about every other store imaginable. I really need to get a job so I can afford to live in such a high retail area. Not only will the job help me afford it but it will also act as a diversion from going exploring/shopping daily.

The morning has been calm and productive. We are packed and ready to get moving. The boys have some homework, I have a new book, Fred has his PSP. We should be good for the direct flight from Cedar Rapids to Dallas.

Getting ready to take a bite!

Why do my kids look so stiff? Hey their dad looks a little uncomfortable too?

Last night was the BIG night for Will. It was a big day really. We had lunch at his favorite restaurant in Ames and Grandpa even bought them commemorative t-shirts so that we will always remember Hickory Park. We all chilled a bit in the afternoon then pulled ourselves together in time to get to church early and prepare for First Holy Communion. Will did a great job helping set the table of the Lord and commented that the wine wasn't so bad just a little spicy.

We were blessed to have the largest turn-out at the meal after church. Granny and Grandpa, Joan and Mike, Andy, Sara and Samuel and of course the highlighted guest of the week Mamma! No one won a prize for driving the furthest but they did acquire a tasty lunch for the trip home tomorrow from the church ladies. The whole crowd was introduced to Oreo Fluff and we all had a great evening. Can't wait to hear how the Main Event in Indy went down last night!

Back to real life today. The house looks like we had a party! I must pull it together and quickly. We are headed to Dallas tomorrow for the Great House Hunt of 2008. Nothing like feeling the pressure to buy a house by next Friday. I need to pack and wash and switch sheets in preparation of our house sitters' stay. I need to make some cards for special events I will be missing this week and straighten straighten straighten. It'll get done while Fred returns his mother to his sister in IL. We'll all keep busy and out of trouble I'm sure. Better run and get going on my day!
